UPDATE: GoPremium and GoTeam customers with annual subscriptions will be automatically invited to test out the new platform on 12/12/17.
On December 12th, some GoAnimate subscribers will be invited to try the alpha version of our new video maker – redesigned to make you a more efficient and polished media maker. We will invite other customers over time as we continue to modify and enhance the platform. We’re excited for you to experience the new video maker, even in its infancy, as your feedback is critical for our development process.
Here’s what you need to know before it’s released on 12/12:
The new video maker makes it even easier for novice and experienced creators to produce dynamic videos in GoAnimate. It simplifies and speeds up video making, introduces a new style, and increases the limits of what you thought you could do in GoAnimate.
Here are some of the biggest changes you’ll discover on 12/12:
A New Contemporary Style
The contemporary style updates the current infographics style and features nearly 100 new templates and a full new set of modern characters. All props in this style will be 100% color-customizable to your brand. As with our legacy video maker, all styles in the new video maker can be combined to create videos that are uniquely yours.
We’ve significantly increased the speed at which you can preview your videos. When you hit “preview” in the new video maker, it will render very quickly. And even better, you’ll be able to scrub the timeline and switch quickly to edit mode to adjust timing as you preview your video.
Download speeds in GoAnimate have improved dramatically over time, and downloading an MP4 will be near instantaneous with the new video maker.
In the new video maker, we’ve moved effect editing into the redesigned timeline to make timing much easier to visualize and control. Effects are now categorized and searchable for easy browsing. You’ll also be able to add your most-used effects (along with other assets) to your shortcuts.
New Keyboard Shortcuts
Copy, paste, and arrow controls have been available shortcuts in the legacy video maker for some time. The new video maker has dozens of new keyboard shortcuts to dramatically improve your editing workflow. Undo, bring to front, send to back, and timeline controls are among our favorites.
Scene templates will now be easier to browse, and their animations will preview when you hover over them. With the new browsing experience it’s especially easy to mix and match GoAnimate styles and your imported assets. There will no longer be a slow-loading dropdown menu that limits you to one creative style at a time.
GoAnimate was built on Flash, which is being replaced by technologies like HTML5, the basis of the new video maker. As we grow, moving away from our original foundation makes it possible for us to address critical feedback and build some cool new features based on customer suggestions. It’s also an opportunity for us to rethink the structure of GoAnimate and create a new video making experience.
On 12/12, GoPremium and GoTeam customers with annual subscriptions will be invited to test out the new platform in its early stages. Other customers will be invited in the coming months. The new video maker will not be available as a free trial until it becomes the default GoAnimate editor. You can upgrade to an annual GoPremium or GoTeam account by November 30th to be invited to try the new video maker on 12/12.
While in alpha, the new video maker will only be supported in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. We would love for you to try it, tell us what works, what doesn’t, and what changes are most important to you. We need your help to make it the best video making experience possible, and you will be able to share feedback directly with us from within the new video maker.
No. Even if you’re invited on 12/12, there is no requirement to use it yet. The new video maker will be in production for some time while we work to make it feature-complete. The current (legacy) video maker will remain the default option for all customers, and testers will be able to use both experiences simultaneously for some time.
While you’re not required to, we encourage you to start exploring the new video maker on 12/12. We think it’s already a faster, more efficient, platform. Keep in mind that we’ve made significant changes and upgrades, but not every feature has been built in (yet). It’s possible you’ll run into a roadblock or two, and that’s OK. On 12/12 we’ll share a feature compatibility list so you know what features have carried over from the current video maker and what’s still being developed. We’ll also provide help videos for the new editor, and the opportunity to sign up for a live webinar tour.
If using the new video maker is a problem for your organization, you do not have to use it. GoTeam admins can request to block member access until the new video maker is complete. Please contact email@example.com for details.
The legacy video maker will be fully supported in the meantime, and you will be able to use both the legacy video maker and the new video maker simultaneously. This means you can explore and experiment in the new video maker without disrupting your current workflow. We’ll keep you updated on our progress and give plenty of notice and support before it’s necessary to make a switch.
While the video maker is in transition, we’re inviting customers in waves to properly address the feedback we know you’ll have for us. If you’d like to be invited on December 12th, you will need to upgrade your account to a GoPremium or GoTeam annual subscription by November 30th. Upgrades and new subscriptions after November 30th will not be invited on December 12th. All other customers will be invited in the coming months.
Your videos are completely safe in your current (legacy) account. It will not be possible to copy videos created in the new video maker into your legacy account. We’ll let you know when copying videos into the new video maker becomes available.
